Received a request for advice in our in box today asking for guidance. The person submitting asked to remain anonymous. "Hi, late last night we almost crashed. It was during our return leg with no patient on board. The pilot fell asleep is all I figure. Abruptly the aircraft attitude went from level to extreme nose down. I screamed and a second later the pilot corrected and leveled. He swears he didn't fall asleep and in our de-brief he asked that we keep the event to ourselves. Not sure what I should do if anything. Not sure if it matters but my partner and I were both half asleep just prior to the attitude change (which is technically not allowed) . Any suggestions for this very new med crew?"

Record: 8-8, third, AFC Central
Points scored/allowed: 334/356
Coach: Sam Rutigliano
Summary: Cleveland had last made the playoffs in 1972, falling six points shy of derailing the soon-to-be-perfect Dolphins. With a new coach at the helm in the league’s first 16-game season, the Browns’ momentum began to fizzle after a 3-0 start. Watching the 15-9 Week 4 OT loss to Pittsburgh is still one of my clearest early football memories. Only three losses by a TD or less, including both contests with Houston (16-13 and 14-10). One positive trend among these .500-type teams is that there is often a good supply of 3’s you can rotate.
Offensive line: 18. A good start, with 4’s for tackles Doug Dieken and Barry Darrow plus center Tom DeLeone. Take your pick of 3-point guards Gerry Sullivan, Henry Sheppard and Bob Jackson.
Receivers: 11. TE Ozzie Newsome (TC-P) makes his first APBA appearance; the 3-point rookie is a B along with 4-point WR Dave Logan. Veteran WR Reggie Rucker (4) is the only A with the common slate of outside-run numbers. Newsome is a more dangerous ball carrier: With 13 carries for 96 yards and two TDs, he earns 2-2-1 at 11-33-66, plus a bounty of 15s. He also gives you a few 6’s and 7’s in the P on two punt returns for 29 yards (long of 24).
Backfield: 10. HB Greg Pruitt (OC-K) is the focal point as the only 4. He’s a B/C receiver with outside-run numbers and a 1 at 66. Cross up opponents with all-around FB/HB Cleo Miller (OC-K) or Mike Pruitt, both 3’s and C’s. QB Brian Sipe (3) gives you some pop with 2-5-1 at 11-33-66 P; he, too, gets some good outside-run results.
Defensive line: 13. Tackle Jerry “The Sheik” Sherk remains the class of the unit as a 4. Threes the rest of the way for tackle Earl Edwards and ends Mike St. Clair and Mack Mitchell.
Linebackers: 9. Another wealth of 3’s. MLB Richard “Bam-Bam” Ambrose is your best hope for a return with eight 8’s and eight 17s for a 39-yard interception. Round out the cast with Gerald Irons, Clay Matthews or Charlie Hall, all of whom contributed at least one INT.
Secondary: 12. Perennial standout safety Thomas “T.D.” Darden has a breakout year — 10 interceptions, 200 yards (long of 46) — to earn a Pro Bowl berth as the team’s only 5. Appropriately, his allocator code is W-10; when you come across that when using the vintage reception/interception chart, you’ll hope to land on the 4-7-4 at 11-33-66 R. He also gets a few 17s, 18s and 19s, and two 9’s. And, he combines with 3-point CB Oliver “O.D.” Davis to hinder the long pass. Davis was second on the team with six picks for 65 yards (long of 33) and a score, receiving three 2’s, three 9’s and four 18s. Only 2’s for CB Clarence Scott and safety Tony Peters (KB). All four starters are confined to one role. Darden is a healthy J-1, but Davis could be lost with his J-4.
Special teams: Rookie punter Johnny Evans (QB-1) gives you eight single-digit results but no 2 despite a 65-yard boot. He also completed a pass for 19 yards, receiving 5-6-5 at 11-33-66 P. Veteran kicker Donald “Donny O” Cockroft gets 5-5-3 and a slew of 21s. Rookie 2-point receiver Keith Wright (OB-K, TA-TB) put up an 86-yard kickoff return (no score) and a 42-yard punt return. For those numbers, he gets 4-7-3 at 11-33-66 K and 5-7-3 in the R.

The Poincaré conjecture says that a 3-dimensional manifold which is compact, has no boundary and is simply connected ishomeomorphic to a 3-dimensional sphere. To understand the statement one needs to understand "manifold", "compact", "no boundary", "simply connected", "homeomorphic" and "3-dimensional sphere" and so all these concepts are described below. Perelman and Hamilton proved the conjecture by deforming the manifold using something called the Ricci flow (which behaves similarly to the heat equation that describes the diffusion of heat through an object). The Ricci flow usually deforms the manifold towards a rounder shape, except for some cases where it stretches the manifold apart from itself (like hot mozzarella) towards what are known as singularities. Perelman and Hamilton then chop the manifold at the singularities (a process called "surgery") causing the separate pieces to form into ball-like shapes. Major steps in the proof involve showing how manifolds behave when they are deformed by the Ricci flow, examining what sort of singularities develop, determining whether this surgery process can be completed and wondering whether the surgery might need to be repeated infinitely many times.

 What is a 3-dimensional sphere?
A one-dimensional sphere is a circle, which can be thought of as the set of points, (x, y), in two dimensions that satisfy the equation x2 y2 = r2, where r is the radius. A two-dimensional sphere is the surface of a globe, or the set of points, (x, y, z) in three dimensions that satisfy the equation x2 y2 z2 = r2. And a three-dimensional sphere is the set of points in four dimensions, (x, y, z, w), that satisfy the equation x2 y2 z2 w2 = r2.Circle is a one dimensional sphereThe boundary of a common ball is the 2-dimensional sphere. The 3-sphere is one dimension higher, the boundary of a four-dimensional ball
 What is a manifold?
A manifold is a space created by gluing together pieces of Euclidean space, called charts. For example you could take two 2-dimensional disks and curve them around two hemispheres and then glue them together to make a 2-dimensional sphere.Hemispheres mapped together to form a SphereYou could also build a torus (the surface of a bagel) using a rectangular chart as seen in this image.Progressive build of a torus from a rectangleYou can build a 3-dimensional sphere using a pair of solid 3-dimensional balls: Identify each point of the boundary of the first ball with the corresponding point of the second ball.Other manifolds can be created in similar ways. See manifold for an easy and advanced description. Manifolds can be warped or distorted using diffeomorphisms.
 What does no boundary mean?
We say a manifold has an edge or a boundary, if one of the charts is not glued to another on all sides. One of the conditions in the Poincaré conjecture is that there be no edges, just like in the sphere and the torus.
 What does compact mean?
A compact manifold is bounded and does not extend to infinity. Both an infinitely long cylinder and an infinite plane are examples of manifolds which are not compact. In Poincaré's Conjecture it is required that the manifolds be compact. Seecompact space for an advanced definition.
 What does simply connected mean?
A manifold is simply connected if any loop drawn on the space can be deformed to a point without leaving the manifold. An example of a simply connected manifold is a sphere. If you try to wrap a lasso around a sphere it will slide off. An example of a manifold which is not simply connected is a torus. One can tie a lasso around a bagel and catch hold of it. Nothing short of untying the lasso or cutting the bagel will let it loose. Seesimply connected for an easy and advanced description.A loop on a sphere can be contracted to a point without leaving the surface.Neither of the colored loops on this torus can be contracted to a point without leaving the surface.
 What does homeomorphic mean?
A homeomorphism between two spaces, A and B, is a correspondence between the points of A and B, such that each point of A corresponds to exactly one point of B and vice versa, which is acontinuous function both when viewed from A to B and from B to A. Intuitively, this means that if two points are close to each other in A, the corresponding points in B are also close to each other, and vice versa. Two spaces are calledhomeomorphic if a homeomorphism between them exists. For example, a 2-dimensional sphere is homeomorphic to the surface of a cube; similarly, a 3-sphere is homeomorphic to the 3-dimensionalboundary of a 4-dimensional hypercube.Putting all these terms together, we can now understand the statement of the Poincaré conjecture:The Poincaré conjecture says that a 3-dimensional manifold which is compact, has no boundary and is simply connected must be homeomorphic to a 3-sphere.
Perelman's proof based on Hamilton's Ricci flow
The first step is to deform the manifold using theRicci flow. The Ricci flow was used by Richard Hamilton as a way to deform manifolds and he used it to prove that many compact manifolds were diffeomorphic to spheres. He did not prove they were all diffeomorphic to spheres. The Ricci flow is an imitation of the heat equation which describes the way heat flows in a solid. Like the heat flow, Ricci flow tends towards uniform behavior. Unlike the heat flow, the Ricci flow could run into singularities and stop functioning. These singularities have been likened to the strands in mozzarella cheese.Hamilton was able to list a number of possible singularities that could form but he was concerned as to whether he had found all possible singularities. He wanted to cut the manifold at the singularities and paste in caps, and then run the Ricci flow again. But he needed to understand the singularities. Grigori Perelman examined the singularities and discovered they were very simple manifolds: essentially three-dimensional cylinders made out of spheres stretched out along a line. An ordinary cylinder is made by taking circles stretched along a line. This was proven using something Perelman called the "Reduced Volume" which is closely related to an eigenvalue of a certain "elliptic equation". Eigenvalues are difficult to describe without calculus but they are part of a famous problem:Can you hear the shape of a drum?. Essentially an eigenvalue is like a note being played by the manifold. Perelman proved this note goes up as the manifold is deformed by the Ricci flow. This helped him eliminate some of the more troublesome singularities that had concerned Hamilton, particularly the cigar solution, which looked like a strand sticking out of a manifold with nothing on the other side. In essence Perelman showed that all the strands that form can be cut and capped and none stick out on one side only.Completing the proof, Perelman takes any compact, simply connected, three-dimensional manifold without boundary and starts to run the Ricci flow. This deforms the manifold into round pieces with strands running between them. He cuts the strands and continues deforming the manifold until eventually he is left with a collection of round three-dimensional spheres. Then he rebuilds the original manifold by connecting the spheres together with three-dimensional cylinders, morphs them into a round shape and sees that, despite all the initial confusion, the manifold was in fact diffeomorphic to a sphere. Two immediate questions were then: how can one be sure there aren't infinitely many cuts necessary? That the cutting does not progress forever? Perelman proved this using soap films on the manifold and showing that the areas of the soap films decreases as the manifold undergoes Ricci flow. Eventually the area is so small that any cut after the area is that small can only be chopping off three-dimensional spheres and not more complicated pieces. This is described as a battle with a Hydra in Szpiro's book cited below.

the road to indianapolis continues with today's flashback moments: former owner alan dillard's career in nascar lasted from 1982 until 1995 as he first entered into nascar with rick mast in the newly formed nationwide series thirty-one years ago before branching out into the sprint cup series in 1994 with his most successful driver, ward burton, until ending his operation after the 1995 sprint cup series season was over. in dillard's thirteen years as an owner, his most successful sponsor was hardee's, which was on the #31 in both the nationwide and sprint cup series. current on again off again nascar driver clay rogers, from mooresville, began his nascar career in 2001, driving for former crew chief robbie reiser with a best finish of third coming in the 2011 camping world truck series' season opening race at daytona. and lastly, the truck series has raced on many tracks in its history that started back in 1995 with one the tracks being the mesa marin raceway in bakersfield, california. out of the nine times that they raced there, there were seven different winners: ron hornaday, mike skinner, randy tolsma, dennis setzer, rick carelli, mike wallace and ted musgrave before being taken off the schedule after the 2003 season.
My good friend John told me he would sing this over and over while a United States soldier in the Philippines and other places in the Pacific theatre during World War II. He said it was around 1943. I played him this and a Blue Sky Boys version. We listened to a later version by the Louvin Bros also.
I'm so blessed to have met John. He's a true hero! Bill Monroe and His Blue Grass Boys sing and play "In The Pines," released as Bluebird 78 #8861 in 1941. Reissued as RCA Camden Lp CAL-719 in 1962.

Bad, bad day! Had to go to Muncie for a dentist apt for me, pick up the girls from church camp, Mass had an apt, and to drop off a van full of things at the goodwill. While Mass was across town at his apt i was on Wheeling at Rectors Dental for my apt with the girls. We got done early so I thought I'd take and drop things off at the goodwill, and on our way the pully on my alternator snaps off and smacks into the floorboard of the van makin me loose all power steering. With all my Might I finally make it into goodwills parking lot to unload, turn off the van. Not knowin at the time what had happen i try to start the van it wouldn't turn over some lady tried jumpin me still no good! So I called my dad till i finally reached him he told me to look for the belt i told him the belt was still attached but off track. He said he'd be there after my mom got off at 3pm. It was 1:30pm. My poor papa had to drive all the way to Muncie and tear apart my van in goodwills drop off drive and replace the alternator with a new one, which wasn't cheap!

Woodward & Lothrop was a department store chain headquartered in Washington, D.C. Woodward & Lothrop was Washington, D.C.'s first department store, opening in 1887. Woodies, as it was often nicknamed, maintained stores in the Mid-Atlantic United States. Its flagship store was a fixture of the shopping district in downtown Washington, with Garfinckel's, and in the late 1990s the center of controversy over competing visions for DC's urban renewal.

Samuel Walter Woodward (1848-August 2, 1917) and Alvin Mason Lothrop (1847–1912) opened a dry goods store in Chelsea, Massachusetts, in 1873, and maintained several stores in the Boston area. In partnership with Charles E. Cochrane, on February 8, 1880 they moved to Washington.
For many years, their department store would sponsor a "Founders Day Sale" in early February to commemorate the move.
Woodward, Lothrop & Cochrane opened at 705 Market Space at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 7th Street Northwest (now the United States Navy Memorial). The first store was so successful that within a year, they moved to a larger location at 921 Pennsylvania Avenue. After flooding in 1886, they moved again to the corner of 11th and F Streets NW. Woodward and Lothrop purchased Cochrane's share of the partnership, and the new store renamed Woodward & Lothrop.
Woodies expanded into suburban shopping malls after World War II, but the owning families resisted expansion by amalgamation, and the chain grew slowly. It became a target of takeover attempts in the 1980s, resisting a leveraged buyout by Ronald Baron in February 1984 but accepting a $277 million bid later that year from Detroit shopping center mogul A. Alfred Taubman.

But Taubman had incurred substantial debt during his '80s acquisitions, which included the Philadelphia-based Wanamaker's department stores in 1986 as well as Sotheby's auction house and various properties. The early 1990s recession, while historically mild, disproportionately impacted real estate and department store retail. The greater Washington area was also affected by sharp reductions in defense spending after the end of the Cold War, leading to a loss of consumer confidence.
Woodward & Lothrop, Inc., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on January 18, 1994, with $608 million in total assets and $659 in total liabilities. Drastic cost-cutting and increased sales figures did not return the firm to profitability, however, and the chain, including its John Wanamaker subsidiary, was liquidated. On June 21, 1995, seven of the remaining Woodward & Lothrop locations were sold to J. C. Penney and the rest plus the Wanamaker's locations were sold to the May Department Stores, which converted them to its Hecht's and Lord & Taylor divisions. By November 1995, all Woodies stores had completed liquidation sales and were permanently closed.

Soon after moving into the historic Carlisle building in 1887, W&L outgrew its space and began expanding, purchasing the neighboring properties. By 1897 it occupied almost the entire block surrounded by 10th, 11th, F, and G Streets NW. In 1898 and 1902, the buildings were renovated behind a new facade facing G Street designed by Henry Ives Cobb. Two additional floors were added in 1912 and 1913, and yet another building added in 1925.
The building attained its lasting form in 1927. It stands ten stories and once held over 400,000 square feet (37,000 m2) of retail space; the exterior was decorated in cast iron and leaded glass accents with flower designs and the Woodward & Lothrop monogram. It was declared a D.C. Historic Landmark in 1964.

After the chain's liquidation, the store stood empty while developers and city officials debated its future. The city first lobbied to have the location reopened as a Macy's, but Macy's owner, Federated Department Stores (now Macy's Inc), demurred; the space was too large, in need of renovation, and situated in downtown Washington, where shopping had declined relative to the suburbs. Finally, the Washington National Opera purchased the building in 1996 for $18 million, seeking to have it renovated into its new home.
Unfortunately, the cost of converting the retail space into an opera house proved daunting: $200 million. It remained empty until 1999 when it was sold to developer Douglas Jemal for $28.2 million. Neighborhood activists wanted Jemal to convert the building for mixed use, including arts space, restaurants, and housing as well as retail, but Jemal sought to use it for mixed office and commercial space instead. The District of Columbia Zoning Commission declined Jemal's proposal, and the building remained empty for two more years.
Finally in 2001, the Commission approved the retail-office plan (on the condition Jemal build housing at another site), and renovation got underway. The building reopened after almost a decade in 2003. Swedish clothing retailer Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) was the first major tenant.

On January 29, 2004, a fire struck the building. Just before 10pm, firefighters responded to visible heavy fire on the 10th Street side. After twenty minutes, most of the fire was knocked down; the cause of the fire was found to be accidental, probably caused by a baseboard space heater. This fire did not affect H&M.
On August 21, 2007, furniture and housewares retailer West Elm opened in the building. Also in 2007, the D.C. branch of Madame Tussauds wax museum opened in the building and a three-floor Zara also opened in the building.
Besides the downtown Washington store, the old Woodward & Lothrop Service Warehouse at 131 M Street, Northeast was also declared a D.C. Historic Landmark in 1993. It's an example of Streamline Moderne architecture and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. The building is visible from the platform of the New York Ave–Florida Ave–Gallaudet University (to be renamed NoMa – Gallaudet University with the June 2012 edition of the official Metro map) station of the Washington Metro, and its pink neon sign by passengers on trains along that right of way.
W&L in the community
Both Woodward and Lothrop became active in civic life. Woodward, for instance, became president of the Washington City YMCA in 1898, and donated significant sums of money for the renovation of its facilities. In addition, Woodward's daughter and heir, Helen, and her husband Luke Ingalls Wilson later donated the bulk of the acreage of their Bethesda estate for the formation of the National Institutes of Health. After Wilson's death from cancer, Helen was instrumental in the creation of the National Cancer Institute. The store they founded itself became a fixture. In the 1920s it boasted at least 67 retail departments, as well as a travel agency, theater, infirmary, merry-go-round, and traveling art exhibits. According to one customer, Woodies was truly part of the social fabric; part department store, restaurant, and showcase for talent shows. Proper young ladies from schools like Bryn Mawr, Stephens, Vassar, Radcliffe, Mt. Holyoke would troop into Woodies for their spring and summer frocks to wear at weekend dances.
The W&L toy department introduced two phenomena to the American public. Harold and John Porter, who comprised the Porter Chemical Company of Hagerstown, Maryland, began manufacturing chemistry sets in 1916. Woodward & Lothrop became the first major retailer to offer them for sale, and "Chemcraft" kits soon appeared at other retailers in the country. In the 1950s, the wife of a W&L buyer saw a demonstration of Play-Doh modeling clay at an educational convention. This led to a successful in-store demo, and the sale of Play-Doh in W&L stores, and soon in toy departments throughout the United States.

Today is a very rough for me today. My dog Maggie. my best friend died about an hour ago. She was doing well and had a stroke. I believe God expects us to be tough and I am trying my best. It does not end there. I was adopted when I was 1 from Celina Tn. I found it was a relative that blocked me and reported me to FB police. For 65 years I have been finding new blood relatives that I did not know about. I was just trying to find some more and got reported for trying to befriend people I did not know, even when we had 50 common friends. I was let down and abandoned at one year old so I should not expect any better 65 years later. I did meet a lot good people in Celina and Cookeville but not any more. I thank God for the friends I have and don't need any more. These ugly people do not represent Celina and Cookeville. Posey would have been ashamed of them!! Also Aaron, Black, Evelyn, Rush,Keith, and many others. Well I better quit feeling sorry for myself and move on. We were never promised an easy life!!God Bless ALL!!

You’re my friend and You are my brother even though You are the King.
