While searching for a animation reference. I stumbled upon a tutorial video by Ryan Doyle. After fumbling around through his parkour videos I stumbled upon what I now think of as my favorite quote.

"When people ask me 'when did you start doing parkour?' and I ask them when did you stop doing parkour? because, I'm sure when you were a kid you used to climb trees and jump off walls" -Ryan Doyle

I never really thought about it like that. ^^"

Just sitting down to write 50 column inches or so for Sunday advancing the first-year anniversary of the Aug. 2 shootout in North Rapid that killed Rapid City police officers Ryan McCandless and Nick Armstrong and their assailant, Daniel Tiger, and seriously wounded officer Tim Doyle. Any suggestions?

Today I received this email from Chris Smith regarding the recent mission trip to Kansas City. Very inspiring!

Zero In: Live to Give

On July 15, 2012, twenty-two seventh and eighth graders and four adult chaperones traveled to Bishop Miege High School in Kansas City, Kansas to participate in Catholic Heart Workcamp.

Catholic HEART Workcamp is about SERVICE, CONNECTION and LOVING OTHERS. It all started in 1993 in Orlando, FL with 100 participants and has grown to over 11,000 serving in 2011. CHWC provides parish youth groups, teens and adult leaders service opportunities to restore homes and HEARTS, feed the hungry, lift the spirits of children, bring joy to the elderly and disabled and offer assistance while partnering with social agencies. Each Workcamp is equipped with a summer staff, director, manager, musician, nurse and priests to celebrate mass/confession. It is a youth friendly Christ centered Week of caring for others. Catholic HEART Workcamp faithfully and enthusiastically serves the Roman Catholic Church and its teachings and is an excellent opportunity to “love the least of these”. (www.heartworkcamp.com)

The theme for this year’s camp was “Zero In: Live to Give.” The prayer, fellowship, service, worship, music, and programming all served to help the students from Owatonna do just that. After a week at camp, here is what some of the students had to say:

Mark Hanson- My experience at CHWC has changed my life. I’ve learned to listen, love, learn, praise, and live to give. I’ve felt like I have doubled my faith and fellowship with Christ. Maybe it has been here the whole time, but this camp has given me the wonderful opportunity to open up and really be a disciple of Christ.

Molly McCabe- I thought it was a life-changing experience. It was a unique way of celebrating our Catholic faith. I met lots of new friends. I also loved serving people who are in need. I also loved the programs at night. Going to church everyday also felt very good to do!

Amy Oldenburg- I think that CHWC was a life-changing experience! I am so glad that I went to CHWC. If I hadn’t had come, I would have been the same person I started off the week as (which is totally different than who I am now).

Emily Paulson- I think this camp has changed my life a lot because of all the positive attitudes and friendships. The topic we focused on this week was “Zero In,” which means to give it your best and all you have. If you want to have a closer relationship with God, this would be a great camp to go to.

Jack Redman- I I was expecting to change other people’s lives, but I was changed by them instead. I totally want to come back.

Jen Schroepfer- CHWC changed my idea of being Catholic from boring to intriguing, from confusing to believable. It has changed my opinion on service from impossible to fun. It has helped me open up to myself. It made it possible to connect to others who share my faith. I’ve always heard people talk about life-changing events, but now I know I really believe that it is possible.

Becca Sedivy- CHWC was indescribable, “A holy two by four to the face,” – a life-changing week. The kids I worked with were beaten, poor, and thought that no one cared for them, then we arrived. Not only did I brighten their day, but they brightened mine. I have learned to value what I have, care for others, and serve in the name of Jesus and God. This trip has changed my life for the better and I cannot wait to go back.

Matalin Shaver- I thought that CHWC was a great time to meet new people that all share the same faith. We talked about deep things in our faith that we don’t have the opportunity to talk about at home. We met people that changed our perspectives about our world because everyone I met was inspiring and energetic.

Grace Thurnau- Catholic Heart Work Camp has changed my life for the better, forever! I feel that I have become stronger in my faith and a much better person. This trip was amazing! I feel like I came out of my shell and zeroed in on the important things in life. It felt really good to help kids who didn't have a very good home life. At first I was thinking to myself how was this going to inspire me to do more when I get home, but after spending my week there I feel like I have the power and strength of Jesus Christ to serve others. This camp is worth everything! I am looking forward to going next year!

2012 Catholic Heart Workcamp participants: Luke Berkley, Thomas Borgerding, Ryan Domeier, Emily Glynn, Mitchell Haberman, Mark Hanson, Ryan Huxford, Mya Johnson, Molly McCabe, Breanna Miller, Emily Paulson, Jack Redman, Jennifer Schroepfer, Becca Sedivy, Maddie Seykora, Mattie Shaver, Greg Simpkins, Katie Skalicky, Emma Smith, Grace Thurnau, Abbie Wishy. Adult chaperones: Doyle Johnson, Mary Schroepfer, Bobbi Shaver, Chris Smith.

On behalf of all the campers and chaperones, thank you so much for your prayers and monetary support to make this trip possible. This experience allowed these students to zero in on what’s important, to live to give to others, to put their faith in action. Our Mailing Address Catholic HEART Workcamp P.O.
