This was the most Sour Thanksgiving ever. When I came in to dinner, Ron Jeremy was sitting next to Grandma, and Taylor Swift was carving the Thanksgiving Trucks.
“Have a seat, Shawn Parrish,” said Taylor Swift.
“Pass the fararri pie, Ron Jeremy,” said Grandma. “You know, it would be really nice to start with a song. Shawn Parrish, would you sing the ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ for everybody?”
“Gosh, Grandma,” I blurted out. “I can't sing in front of everybody. I'm not a rock star like Primus, you know.”
At that point there was a(n) Squee at the front door. I jacked off to the hall and opened the door. There was Primus!
“Hey, dude, are we in time for the ‘Star-Spangled Banner’?” asked bob marley, the lead singer of Primus.
“Primus! I can't believe it! Did you really come to my house for Thanksgiving dinner?” I asked. I was really high.
“OH SHIT NIGGA!” said bob marley. “We wouldn't pass up a chance to eat your grandma's fararri pie!”
So I led Primus back into the dining room, and we sang the ‘Star-Spangled Banner.’ Everyone clapped and came.
“You should come on our next tour with us!” said bob marley.
FUCKIN BATMAN! I was going to be a rock star!
“Shawn Parrish! Shawn Parrish! Wake up. It's time to make the pumpkin pie.”
It was my mom. I was in bed. It was Thanksgiving morning, and it was all a dream!
For a moment I felt really hard because I wasn't going to get to be a rock star. Then I thought about it.
“Well,” I decided, “I am thankful for my family, for my home, and for my pet superman, Troy. And I'm really thankful I won't have to eat fararri pie today!”
“And certainly, We shall test you with a bit of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits. But give glad tidings to the patient ones who, when afflicted with a calamity, say: “Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.” They are those upon whom are the blessings, descend from their Lord, and they receive His Mercy, and it is they who are guided.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:155-157)
“And among mankind is he who worships Allah as if he were upon the very edge (i.e. in doubt); if good befalls him, he is content with it;. But if a trial befalls him, he turns back on his face. He loses both this World and the Hereafter. That is the evident loss.”(Surah al-Haj 22:11)
“So, it is a must for the souls to be nurtured by way of tests, and to be severely tested during the course of the battle between truth and falsehood with fear and hardship, and with hunger and decrease in wealth and life and fruits. This testing is a necessity so that the believer can give his share of what his belief requires; so that it becomes dear to him in accordance with that he gives for its sake of sacrifice and burden; so that it becomes dear to him in accordance with what he is willing to give for its sake! The bearers of worthless beliefs that do not require any type of sacrifice will not hesitate to abandon their beliefs at the first sign of hardship. So, the burden here is the personal price that one pays so that this belief becomes dear and valuable in the hearts of its bearers before it becomes dear to the hearts of anyone else. Whenever they experience pain for its sake, and every single time they are forced to give something up for its sake, it becomes even dearer and more valuable to them, and they become even more honored with it. With this, nobody else will realize its value until they see how its bearers are tested because of it and how patient they are upon such tests.”
“And, when he was old enough to walk with him, he said: “O my son! I have seen in a dream that I am slaughtering you, so what do you think?” He said: “O my father! Do that which you are commanded, if Allah Wills, you will find me to be of the patient.” Then, when they had both submitted, and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead, and We called out to him: “O Ibrahim! You have fulfilled the dream!” Verily! Such do We reward the good-doers.” (Surah as-Saffat :102-7)
Sa’ad bin Abi Waqqas reported that he asked the Messenger of Allah (SAW): “Which of the people are tested most severely?” Rasulullah (SAW) replied: “The Prophets, then the righteous, then those who are most like them, then those who are most like them from the people. A man is tested according to his religious commitment. So, if his religious practice is sound, then his testing is increased, and if his religious practice is weak, then his testing is reduced. A servant continues to be tested until he walks the Earth without a single sin on him.” (Ahmad, Tirmidhi)
3) Purify the Ranks and Distinguish the Righteous from the Wicked:
“And when the believers saw the Confederates, they said: “This is what Allah and His Messenger had promised us, and Allah and His Messenger had spoken the truth,” and it only added to their faith and submissiveness.” (Surah Ahzaab 33:22)
“Allah might make easy the affairs of the people of evil so that they may increase in sin and corruption, and so that they might increase in their buildup of sins and crimes. Then, he may deal with them in this World or the Hereafter – depending on His Wisdom and Decision – on account of this sinister buildup of deeds! On the other hand, He may also prevent them from ease so that they would increase in evil and sin and crimes and suffocation, eventually losing hope in the Mercy of Allah, resulting in an increase in their buildup of evil and misguidance. Likewise, Allah can make easy the affairs of the people of good so that they may become established in their righteous actions and carry out as much of them as they can while increasing in their sustenance, so that they may thank Him for these blessings with their hearts, tongues, and pleasant actions. With all of this, they increase in a buildup of good deeds that they rightfully deserve with Allah because of their righteousness and because of the good that Allah Knows is in their hearts. On the other hand, he may also prevent them from ease in order to observe their patience upon this state, as well as their confidence and hope in their Lord, their relaxation at the realization of His Power, their being pleased with Him as their only Lord – and He is better than all others – resulting in an increase in their buildup of good.”

“Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the kingdom, and He is Able to do all things. The One Who has created death and life in order to test you and see which of you is best in deed, and He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving.” (Surah al-Mulk 67:1-2)
“Verily, We have created man from drops of mixed semen in order to test him, so We made him hearer, seer. Verily, We showed him the way, so he is either grateful or ungrateful.” (Surah al-Insan 76: 2-3)
“Verily, We have made that which is on earth as an adornment for it so that We may test them as to which of them are best in deeds.” (Surah al-Kahf 18:7)
“And it is He Who has made you generations after generations, replacing each other on the earth. And He has raised you in ranks – some above others – that He may test you in that which He has bestowed on you. Surely, your Lord is Swift in retribution, and certainly He is Oft*-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surah al-An’am 6:165)
“A human being is tested so that he may come to know the reality of himself and others. Life is consists of constant testing; testing with what is bad, or testing with what is good. However, what is best for the believer may be found in what he hates, and what is bad for him may be found in what he likes. The true believer is the one who loves that which Allah has chosen for him. So, if He tests him with something that he loves, he thanks Him, and if He tests him with that which he hates, he is patient and thanks Him in this case, as well. And Allah – the Glorified – gives the believer in accordance with what will lead to his happiness in either this World or the next. So, if it is better for him to have something, Allah gives it to him. If it is better for him not to have something, Allah prevents him from having that thing, just as one who is sick is prevented from too much food or water. Therefore, it is upon a person to completely submit to Allah – the Glorified – in regards to what He has chosen for him, and to be pleased with what Allah has given him, and to understand that if Allah prevents him from something, then it is because Allah wishes to save him from being tested with that thing.”
All followers of different religions claim that their religion is the right or true religion. However, only the Muslims have the divine proofs for such claim. Only the Muslims have the Qur’an and the Sunnah (Prophet Muhammad’s Tradition) to prove that Islam is the true religion from Allah, the Only True God. Both the Qur’an and the Sunnah, the two Divinely Revealed Islamic Sources of knowledge and guidance, explicitly make clear to us the excellence of Islam.
This brief work is a compilation of some verses from the Qur’an and the authentic Ahâdîth (Teachings of Prophet Muhammad, (peace be upon him) show concrete proofs to elucidate the excellence of Islam. We, the whole humanity, especially non-Muslims, must reflect and think about upon the authenticity of the divine proofs. In this way, we give due importance to the True Religion and live according to its divine teachings; and thus, attain success, especially ultimate success in the eternal life Hereafter.
This compilation on the authenticity of the excellence of Islam, far from being complete, is brief, yet comprehensive enough to cover the important aspects of the true and unique Religion and Way of Life, Islam. All the Qur’anic Ayât (Verses) and authentic Ahâdîth enumerated in this work serve as concrete proofs for the excellence of Islam. The divine teachings are direct and simple -- clearly or explicitly stated. They do not need further explanations, non-Muslims who read them with objective minds and hearts will, by Allah’s Grace, embrace the True Religion. Let the following words of Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him) guide and inspire all of us to the excellence of Islam: inshallah
1. Islâm Teaches Absolute Oneness of Allâh I (Subhananu wa ta'ala, meaning: the Most Glorified, the Exalted) the Unique God, Who Alone is Worthy of True Worship
“Say (O Muhammad): ‘Truly am I a Warner: no god is there but the One Allâh Supreme and Irresistible, the Rabb (Only God and Sustainer) of the heavens and the earth and all between Exalted in Might Able to enforce His will forgiving again and again.’ Say: ‘That is a message supreme (above all) from which you do turn away!’” (Qur'an 38:65-68)
“Say: ‘He is Allâh the One. The Eternally besought of all. He begets not nor was He begotten and there is none comparable unto Him.’” (Qur'an 112: 1-4)
“Verily, I am Allâh: There is no god but I: So serve Me (only), and perform regular prayers for My remembrance.” (Qur'an 20:14)
“To Him (Allâh) is due the true prayer...for the prayer of those without Faith is nothing but vain prayer.” (Qur'an 13:14)
2. Clarifies the Purpose of Our Creation
“I have created not the jinn and men except that they should worship Me (Alone). I seek not any provision from them nor do I ask that they should feed Me. Verily, Allâh is the All-Provider, Owner of Power, Most Strong.” (Qur'an 51:56-58)
“So glorify the praises of your Rabb (Sustainer) and be of those who prostrate themselves (to Him). And worship your Rabb (Sustainer) until there comes unto you the Hour that is certain (i.e., death).” (Qur'an 15:98-99)
3. Everlasting Rewards in Islâm is based on Three Divine Conditions:
a. Belief in One God
“...But if they had joined in worship others with Allâh, all that they used to do would have been of no benefit to them.” (Qur'an 6:88)
And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad), as it was to those (Allâh’s Messengers) before you: “If you join others in worship with Allâh, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers.” (Qur'an 39:65)
b. Sincerity of purpose (Ikhlas) or doing good deeds for the pleasure of Allâh
“And they have been commanded no more than this: to worship Allâh, offering Him sincere devotion, being True (in Faith); establish regular prayer; and to give Zakat. And that is the Religion Right and Straight.” (Qur'an 98:5)
“Say: Truly, my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death are (all) for Allâh, the Rabb (Only Cherisher and Sustainer) of the Worlds.” (Qur'an 6:162)
‘Umar ibn Al-Khattab t said: I heard Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) saying, “The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended....” (Bukhâri, 1/1 and Muslim3/ 4692)
c. Deeds must be in accordance with the Qur’ân and Sunnah.
“O you who believe! Obey Allâh, and obey the Messenger (Muhammad (peace be upon him)) and render not vain your deeds.” (Qur'an 47:33)
4. Based on authentic revealed sources (Qur’ân and the Sunnah)
“For We had certainly sent unto them a Book (the Qur’ân) based on knowledge, which We explained in detail a guide and a Mercy to all who believe.” (Qur'an 7:52)
Abdullâh ibn ‘Amr t reported that Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Knowledge consists of three things: the decisive verses (Qur’ân), authentic Ahâdîth and prescriptions rightly deduced from the two. What is beside them is superfluous.” (Ibn Mâjah, 1/54)
‘Abdullah ibn Amir ibn Al-As t narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Knowledge has three categories; anything else is extra; a precise verse, or an established Sunnah (practice), or a firm obligatory duty.” (Abu Daud, 2879)
Jâbir ibn ‘Abdullâh t reported that Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “The best of affairs is the Book of Allâh (the Qur’ân) and the best of guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad r.” (Ibn Mâjah 1/45; Muslim1885)
5. Rational and Well-documented based on Knowledge, Proofs, and Certainty
“Read! In the name of your Rabb (Only God and Sustainer) Cherisher, Who created — created man, out of a leech-like clot: Read! And your Rabb is Most Bountiful. He Who taught (the use of) the Pen, taught man that which he knew not.” (Qur'an 96:1-4)
“And they say: ‘None shall enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian.’ Those are their (vain) desires. Say: ‘Produce your proof if you are truthful.’” (Qur'an 2:111)
“...Say: ‘Bring the Torah and recite it, if you are men of truth. If any, after this invents a lie and attributes it to Allâh, they are indeed unjust wrong-doers.’” (Qur'an 3:93-94)
“Or have they taken for worship (other) gods besides Him? Say, ‘Bring your convincing proof: this is the Message of those before me.’ But most of them know not the Truth, and so turn away.” (Qur'an 21:24)
“Allâh! There is no god but He: of a surety He will gather you together on the Day of Judgment, about which there is no doubt. And whose word can be truer than Allâh’s?” (Qur’ân, 4:87)
6. Universal in scope (i.e., the religion for the whole mankind)
“Say: ‘I seek refuge with the Rabb and Cherisher of mankind, the King (or Ruler) of mankind, the God (or Judge) of mankind ¾ from the mischief of the Whisperer (of Evil), who withdraws (after his whisper) (the same) who whispers into the hearts of mankind ¾ among Jinn and among men.’” (Qur'an 114:1-6)
“O mankind! Reverence your Guardian-Rabb Who created you from a single person, created of like nature his mate and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless men and women. Reverence Allâh through Whom you demand your mutual (rights) and (reverence) the wombs (that bore you): for Allâh ever watches over you.” (Qur'an 4:1)
O mankind! Remember the Grace of Allâh upon you! Is there a Creator other than Allâh to give you Sustenance from heaven or earth? There is no god but He. How then are you deluded away from the Truth? (Qur'an 35:3)
“O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that you may know each other (not that you may despise each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allâh is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allâh has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).” (Qur'an 49:39)
“Whatever good (O man) happens to you is from Allâh; but whatever evil happens to you is from your (own) soul. And We have sent you (O Muhammad) as a Messenger to mankind: and enough is Allâh for a witness.” (Qur'an 4:79)
“We have not sent you (O Muhammad) but as a universal (Messenger) to the whole mankind giving them glad tidings and warning them (against sin) but most of mankind understand not.” (Qur'an 34:28)
“O mankind! The Messenger (Muhammad) has come to you in truth from Allâh: believe in him: it is best for you. But if you reject faith to Allâh belong all things in the heavens and on earth: and Allâh is All Knowing, All-Wise.” (Qur'an 4:170)
7. Practical and easy
“...Allâh intends every facility for you; He does not want to put you to difficulties...” (Qur'an 2:185)
“But whoever believes and works righteousness he shall have a goodly reward and easy will be his task as We order it by Our command.” (Qur'an 18:88)
Anas bin Malik t (Radhiallahu anhu, meaning: May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Make things easy for the people, and do not make it difficult for them, and make them calm (with glad tidings) and do not repulse (them).” (Bukhâri,8/146)
Abu Hurairah t narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Religion is very easy and whoever overburdens himself in his religion will not be able to continue in that way. So you should not be extremists, but try to be near to perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded; and gain strength by worshipping in the mornings, the nights.” (Bukhari 1/38)
Anas (bin Malik) narrated We were with 'Umar and he said, “We have been forbidden to undertake a difficult task beyond our capability...” (Bukhari 9/396)
Abu Musa t narrated that when Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) sent him and Mu'adh Bin Jabal to Yemen, he said to them, “Facilitate things for the people (treat the people in the most agreeable way), and do not make things difficult for them. Give them glad tidings, and let them not have aversion (i.e. to make the people hate good deeds). And you should both work in cooperation and mutual understanding and obey each other.” (Bukhari 8/145)
8. Avoidance of Bid’ah or Innovation in Religion
Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah t narrated that Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “The best speech is that embodied in the Book of Allâh, and the best guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad. The most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is an error.” (Muslim1885)
Ali ibn Abu Talib t said: (According to Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him)), “…If anyone introduces an innovation, he will be responsible for it. If anyone introduces an innovation or gives shelter to a man who introduces an innovation (in religion), he is cursed by Allâh, by His angels, and by all the people.” (Abu Dawud 4515)
Yahya ibn. Abu Muta said, “I heard Irbad b. Sariya as saying, “One day Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, ‘… it is incumbent upon you to adhere strictly to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided Caliphs. Hold fast that with teeth and pursue not the affairs of innovation for every innovation is straying from the Right Path.’” (Ibn Majah 1/42, Abu Dawud 4950, and Tirmidhi)
9. Moderation and Consistency
Abû Hurairah t narrated that Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “The deeds of anyone of you will not save you (from Hell-Fire).” They said, “Even you, (will not be saved by your deeds), O Allâh’s Messenger?” He said, “No, even I, unless and until Allâh bestows His Mercy on me. Therefore, do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately, and worship Allâh in the forenoon and in the afternoon and during a part of the night, and always adopt a middle, moderate, regular course whereby you will reach your Target (Paradise).” (Bukhâri 8/ 470)
Abu Hurairah t narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Religion (Islâm) is very easy and whoever overburdens himself in his religion will not be able to continue in that way. So you should not be extremists, but try to be near to perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded; and gain strength by offering the prayers in the mornings, afternoons and during the last hours of the nights.” (Bukhâri 1/38)
10. Complete/comprehensive
“…He it is Who has sent unto you the Book, explained in detail. They know full well, to whom We have given the Book, that it has been sent down from your Rabb in truth. Never be then of those who doubt.” (Qur'an 6:114)
“For We had certainly sent unto them a Book based on knowledge, which We explained in detail ¾ a guide and a mercy to all who believe.” (Qur'an 7:52)
“…(This is ) a Book with verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning) ¾ further explained in detail ¾ from One Who is Wise and Well-Acquainted (with all things).” (Qur'an 11:1)
11. Well-balanced life
“But seek the wealth which Allâh has bestowed on you, the Home of the Hereafter, nor forget your portion in this World. But do good, as Allâh has been good to you, and seek not (occasions for) mischief in the land; for Allâh loves not those who do mischief.” (Qur'an 28:77)
“And when the prayer is finished, then may you disperse through the land, and seek of the Bounty of Allâh: and remember Allâh frequently that you may prosper.” (Qur'an 62:10)
“Our Rabb! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter. And save us from the torment of the Fire!” (Qur'an 2:201)
12. Enjoins Universal Brotherhood and Unity Among the Believers
“Verily, this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood, and I am your Rabb (the Only God, Cherisher and Sustainer: therefore serve Me (and no other). But (later generations) cut off their affair (of unity), one from another: will they all return to Us.” (Qur'an 21: 92-93)
“Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong; they are the ones to attain felicity. Be not like those who are divided amongst themselves and fall into disputations after receiving clear signs; for them is a dreadful penalty.” (Qur'an 3:104-105)
And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allâh (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves. And remember with gratitude Allâh’s favor on you; for you were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His grace, you became brethren; and you were on the brink of the pit of fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allâh make His signs clear to you: that you may be guided. (Qur'an 3:102-103)
“Be not like those who are divided amongst themselves and fall into disputations after receiving Clear Signs; for them is a dreadful Chastisement.” (Qur'an 3:105)
An Numan Bin Bashir narrated that Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “You see the believers as regards their being merciful among themselves, showing love among themselves, and being kind, resembling one body; so that, if any part of the body is not well then the whole body shares the sleeplessness (insomnia) and fever with it.” (Bukhari 8/40 and Muslim)
Abu Musa narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “A faithful believer to a faithful believer is like the bricks of a wall, enforcing each other.” While (saying that) the Prophet r clasped his hands, by interlacing his fingers. (Bukhari 1/468)
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The believer is the believer’s mirror, and the believer is the believer’s brother who guards him against loss and protects him when he is absent.” (Abu Dawud 4900)
13. No Racial Discrimination, Superiority is Based on Righteousness and Piety
“O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know each other (not that you may despise each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allâh is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allâh has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).” (Qur'an 49: 13)
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The whole mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves. Remember, one day you will appear before Allâh and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone. O People no Prophet or Messenger will come after me and no new Faith will be born. Reason well therefore, O People and understand words, which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Qur’ân and my example the Sunnah and if you follow these you will never go astray." (Muslim)
Abu Dharr narrated that Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said to him, “You are not better than people with red or black skins unless you excel them in piety.” (Tirmidhi 5198 and Ahmad)
14. Eternal Effects and Supreme Success
“Nothing is the life of this world but play and amusement. But for better is the Home in the Hereafter for those who are pious. Will you not then understand?” (Qur'an 6:32)
“Allâh does enlarge, or grant by (strict) measure, the Sustenance (which He gives) to whom so He pleases. They rejoice in the life of this world: but the life of this world is nothing but little comfort compared to the Hereafter.” (Qur'an 13:26)
“The believers, men and women, are protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just and forbid what is evil: they observe regular prayers practice regular charity and obey Allâh and His Messenger. On them will Allâh pour His mercy: for Allâh is Exalted in power Wise. Allâh has promised the believers, men and women, gardens under which rivers flow to dwell therein and beautiful mansions in gardens of everlasting bliss. But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of Allâh: that is the supreme success.” (Qur'an 9:71-72)
Verily, the Righteous (they will be) in a position of Security, among Gardens and Springs; dressed in fine silk and in rich brocade they will face each other; and We shall join them to Companions with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. There can they call for every kind of fruit in peace and security; nor will they there taste death except the first death. And He will save them from the Torment of the Blazing Fire as a bounty from your Rabb (Only Cherisher and Sustainer)! That will be the supreme success!” (Qur'an 44: 51- 57)
15. The Right and True religion
“Verily this is My Way leading straight: follow it, and follow not (other) paths. They will separate you (away) from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may become righteous (pious).” (Qur'an 6:153)
“Truly the Religion before Allâh is Islâm (submission to His Will). Those who were given the Scripture (the Jews and the Christians) did not differ except out of mutual jealousy, after knowledge had come to them. But if any denies the Signs of Allâh, Allâh is swift in calling to account.” (Qur'an 3:19)
“Whatever you worship apart from Him is nothing but name which you have named ¾ you and your fathers, for which Allâh has sent down no authority. The command is for none but Allâh. He has commanded that you worship none but Him. That is the Right Religion, but most of mankind do not know.” (Qur'an 12:40)
“So set your face steadily and truly to the Faith: (Establish) Allâh’s handiwork according to the pattern on which He has made mankind: no change (let there be) in the work (wrought) by Allâh. That is the True Religion: but most among mankind understand not.” (Qur'an 30:30)
16. No Compulsion in Religion
“Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error...” (Qur'an 2:256)
“...And say to the People of the Book and to those who are unlearned: ‘Do you (also) submit yourselves?’ If they do, they are in right guidance, but if they turn back, your duty is to convey the Message; and in Allâh’s Sight are (all) His servants.” (Qur'an 3:20)
“If it had been Your Rabb’s Will, they would all have believed, ¾ all who are on earth! Will you then compel mankind, against their will, to believe?”
17. Divine Guidance
“This is the Guidance of Allâh. He gives that guidance to whom He wills, of His servants if they were to join other gods with Him, all that they did would be vain for them.” (Qur'an 6:88)
“Whom Allâh does guide, he is on the Right Path. Whom He rejects from His Guidance, such are the persons who lose.” (Qur'an 7:178)
18. Teaches Righteousness and Forbids Evil Deeds

Abû Sa ‘id Al-Khudri narrated that he heard Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) as saying, “He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has no strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue. And if he has no strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart and that is the least of faith.” (Muslim79)
‘Abdullâh ibn Mas‘ud narrated that Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “…By no means, I swear by Allâh, you must enjoin what is good and prohibit what is evil, prevent the wrong-doer, bend him into conformity with what is right, and restrict him to what is right.” (Abû Dâwûd 4322)
19. Adheres to Truth and Forbids Falsehood
“O you who believe! Fear Allâh and be with those who are truthful.” (Qur'an 9:119)
“That Allâh may reward the people of Truth for their Truth, and punish the Hypocrites if He wills, or turn to them in Mercy; for Allâh is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Qur'an 33:24)
“Who does more wrong than those who invent a lie against Allâh? They will be turned back to the Presence of their Rabb and the witnesses will say, ‘These are the ones who lied against their Rabb!’ Behold! The curse of Allâh is on those who do wrong!” (Qur'an 11:18)
“Shall I inform you (o people) on whom it is that the evil ones descend? They descend on every lying wicked person (into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities and most of them are liars.” (Qur'an 26:221-223)
‘Abdullâh ibn ‘Amrt narrated that Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “If you have four characteristics, whatever worldly advantage passes you by does not matter to you: keeping a trust, speaking the truth, a good character, and abstemiousness in food.” (Qur'an Tirmidhî 5222, Ahmad and Bayhaqi)
Abû Umamah Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqâs narrated that Allâh’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “A believer is stamped with all the characteristics except treachery and falsehood.” (Tirmidhî 4860 and Ahmad)
20. Fights or Shows Enmity to Satan
“O mankind! Eat of what is on earth, lawful and good; and do not follow the footsteps of Satan for he is to you an avowed enemy. For he commands you what is evil and shameful, and that you should say of Allâh that of which you have no knowledge.” (Qur'an 2:168-169)
“O you children of Adam! Let not Satan seduce you, in the same manner as he got your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their raiment, to expose their shame: for he and his tribe see you from a position where you cannot see them. We made Satan’s friends (only) for those without Faith.” (Qur'an 7:27)
“Verily, Satan is an enemy to you: so treat him as an enemy. He only invites his adherents, that they may become companions of the Blazing Fire.” (Qur'an 35: 6)
21. Perfect
“...This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islâm as your religion.” (Qur'an 5:3)
22. The Only Religion Acceptable to Allâh I
“If anyone desires a religion other than Islâm (submission to Allâh), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good).” (Qur'an 3:85)
23. Enjoins the Believers to Enter into Islâm wholeheartedly
“O you who believe! Enter into Islâm wholeheartedly; and follow not the footsteps of the Evil One, for he is to you an avowed enemy.” (Qur'an 2:208)
“O you who believe! Fear Allâh as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islâm that you may be guided.” (Qur'an 3:102-103)
Conclusions And Recommendations
All the above concrete proofs from the two Revealed Sources of knowledge and guidance show that indeed, Islam is the True Religion from Allah. We Muslims must be thankful to Allah the Almighty for guiding us to the Right Path. Islam is His Grace to whom He pleases. Being Muslims, being guided to the Perfect Religion and Way of Life, is really the greatest blessing from our Creator. It is something that makes us outstanding over other peoples of other religions.
For our success, we need to strive hard to know the following four important lessons: 1) to acquire authentic knowledge of Islam according to the Qur'an and the Sunnah; 2) practice it correctly and live according to its Teachings; 3) share our knowledge of Islam with others in order to call or invite them to Islam; and 4) be patient as Muslims. We Muslims need to know more about Islam in order to worship our Creator the way He likes us to worship Him and perform other forms of worship -- all for His Pleasure. We need to know how to live and practice the Islamic way of life according to the Sunnah of Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him). Likewise, we need to know how to share authentic knowledge of Islam to others according to the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Last but not the least, we need to know how to be patient in the acquisition of Islamic knowledge, in the application of Islam to our daily lives, and in conveying the Message of Islam to others. Let us strive hard to know more about Islam according to the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah. Let us adhere to its teachings. Let us invite non-Muslims to the Right Way to Success. Let us be patient in all our ways hoping for Allah's Supreme Rewards, which He promises to those who believe and do righteous deeds in Islam. Let us remember that, indeed, Islam as the True Religion from Allah has all the concrete proofs of EXCELLENCE!

Nenhum outro ícone do rock é mais enigmático do que FREDDIE MERCURY. O cantor, que deixou a improvável Zanzibar (Tanzânia) ainda na adolescência, conquistou fama e prestígio no mundo inteiro com a sua banda – o QUEEN – em vinte anos de carreira. No entanto, o músico de origem persa sempre foi tímido e avesso a entrevistas. Em razão dessa lacuna deixada na história da música, o escritor francês Selim Rauer buscou remontar a sua vida na obra “Freddie Mercury”. O livro, que não chega a abordar as polêmicas e os fatos desconhecidos de bastidores do seu ex-grupo, constroi uma interessante cronologia do nascimento à morte do vocalista.
Em cerca de trezentas páginas, o filósofo e escritor (de poemas) Selim Rauer reconstruiu satisfatoriamente bem quase todos os passos de Mercury – a partir do seu nascimento em setembro de 1946 até a sua morte em novembro de 1991 – nessa biografia. O cantor, que assinava Farrokh Pluto Bulsara como nome verdadeiro, vendeu mais de duzentos milhões de discos e pode ser apontado como a primeira celebridade a morrer em decorrência da AIDS. Por outro lado, o QUEEN – a sua banda – é considerado o maior representante de rock de todos os tempos (de acordo com uma enquete promovida pelo jornal inglês The Daily Mail). Para escrever sobre a vida de FREDDIE MERCURY, Rauer recorreu a um pequeno arquivo de textos (livros) e vídeos sobre o cantor. A obra, que poderia adquirir profundidade a partir de entrevistas que sequer foram realizadas, deixa a ideia no ar de que o vocalista merece uma biografia ainda mais completa sobre a sua carreira.
De qualquer modo, a qualidade do texto se sobrepõe aos pequenos defeitos do livro (inclusive de tradução). A dificuldade em encontrar conteúdo sobre a vida de FREDDIE MERCURY – sobretudo entrevistas concedidas pelo cantor – é que determinou o direcionamento de “Freddie Mercury” a partir de uma revisão de títulos já existentes sobre o vocalista. Embora possuam uma importância fundamental para a história, as vozes de David Evans (um dos amantes de Mercury), Wendy Alison (a sua amiga mais próxima e herdeira do seu espólio) e de Peter Freestone (assistente particular do músico por mais de uma década) apenas contornam o relato de Rauer. A história inicia ainda na infância de Farrokh Bulsara, que muito cedo deixou a casa dos pais em Zanzibar, na costa da Tanzânia, para estudar em um internato de rigidez inglesa em Bombaim, na Índia. As dificuldades de relacionamento no colégio – em decorrência da distância impactante de casa e da sua homossexualidade reprimida desde cedo – marcaram em definitivo a personalidade reprimida do futuro cantor do QUEEN.
Para não sofrer diariamente com os apelidos “dente de coelho” e “mocinha”, o jovem Farrokh Bulsara encontrou na música e na arte a sua válvula de escape. Desde os sete anos isolado na St. Peter’s School, Freddie iniciou as aulas de música e de desenho ainda no primário. O apoio dos seus professores e o sucesso dos BEATLES foram fundamentais para que Mercury optasse pelas artes na Escola de Isleworth na sua adolescência, já em Londres (para onde se mudou com a família após deixar o internato em 1964). A sua personalidade instável não prejudicou em nada a sua adaptação à capital inglessa. Em 1996, FREDDIE MERCURY se matriculou no Ealing College of Art para dar continuidade aos estudos (em nível superior).
Na época da faculdade que FREDDIE MERCURY viu as oportunidades aparecerem. Em um quarto alugado em Kensington e passando por dificuldades óbvias para uma vida independente dos pais, Freddie Bulsara conheceu o estudante de física Brian May e o estudante de odontologia Roger Taylor. Os dois, que dividiam um pequeno apartamento com Tim Stafell, formavam uma banda, chamada SMILE. O cantor, por outro lado, se mudou por um curto período para Liverpool para atuar junto ao IBEX. No entanto, com a mesma rapidez que os projetos nasceram, os dois encerraram as suas atividades poucos anos depois. A óbvia união do trio – sem o guitarrista/vocalista Tim Stafell – é apenas uma decorrência dessa proximidade. Desse modo, emm junho de 1970 nascia o QUEEN (nome escolhido por Mercury) em um show marcado no Hotel de Truro, na capital inglesa.
Embora os três tenham encontrado dificuldade para efetivar um baixista na banda, no ano seguinte John Deacon – sétimo músico a ser testado para o posto – se juntou ao QUEEN, que já possuía músicas prontas, como “Stone Cold Crazy” e “Seven Seas of Rhye”. A banda, que mesmo recusada por gravadoras como a Decca e a EMI, não perdeu as esperanças. O quarteto se juntou ao produtor Ken Testi (que era do IBEX) e à dupla Norman e Barry Sheffield (do Trident Studio) para gravar as suas primeiras músicas. O horário ingrato destinado ao QUEEN – entre 3h e 7h da manhã – sensibilizou os outros músicos que gravavam no mesmoo estúdio, como PAUL MCCARTNEY e DAVID BOWIE, que muitas vezes cederam seus horários prioritários ao conjunto iniciante. Em julho de 1973 saiu o primeiro álbum da banda, autointitulado, e com a impressionante marca de seis das dez composições escritas por FREDDIE MERCURY. Embora tenham demorado a conquistar certo reconhecimento no Reino Unido, músicas como “Keep Yourself Alive” ganharam rapidamente o status de sucesso na Europa e até mesmo nos Estados Unidos.
De modo rápido, Rauer remonta os primeiros anos da carreira do QUEEN. A banda, que gravava discos e realizava turnês com uma intensidade impressionante, se destacou com o seu segundo disco, intitulado “Queen II” (1974). Na época, FREDDIE MERCURY se apresentou pela primeira vez no Top of the Tops (com uma nova versão para “Seven Seas of Rhye”). No entanto, nem mesmo o sucesso na América do Norte e no Japão proporcionaram o enriquecimento do quarteto nos primeiros anos de sucesso. Com o novo empresário – Jim Beach – é que o QUEEN conquistou verdadeiramente o mundo. O álbum “Night at the Opera”, que saiu em novembro de 1975, é considerado até hoje um marco para o rock n’ roll. Do mesmo modo, “Bohemian Rhapsody” é apontada como uma das principais músicas do gênero.
Por mais que se concentre na história oficial do QUEEN, a biografia de Rauer abre muitas páginas para dar destaque à vida pessoal de Mercury. A música “Love of My Life” foi composta para Mary Austin, a amiga mais próxima e que por muitos tempos foi amante (quase esposa) do cantor. A bissexualidade de FREDDIE MERCURY – encarada como uma espécie de independência pelo músico – nunca chegou a comprometer o seu rendimento ao vivo. Nem mesmo o seu apetite sexual insaciável e inconsequente, aliado ao abuso de álcool e de cocaína, prejudicaram a ascensão da sua banda até o início dos anos oitenta. Os discos – a partir de “A Day at the Races” (1976) – atingiram repercussões incríveis, sobretudo em suas turnês. Em 1976, o QUEEN se apresentou para mais de 170 mil pessoas em um evento no Hyde Park, em Londres. A banda – assim como FREDDIE MERCURY – conquistou o mundo e escreveu o seu nome na história do rock n’ roll de forma extremamente sólida.
Por questões fiscais o QUEEN se mudou para a Suíça mais ou menos nesse período. A vida profissional de Mercury, que se dividia entre cantar e compor, era intensa no seu dia a dia. Nenhum dos relacionamentos foi verdadeiramente sério para o cantor. As desilusões apenas contribuíram para que Freddie se fechasse cada vez mais. Entretanto, a sua banda se dispunha entre Munique e Montreux no período em que gravou “The Game”. Como curiosidade da época, “Crazzy Little Thing Called Love” foi composta por Mercury em uma banheira do hotel Hilton na Alemanha.
Nos anos oitenta o status do QUEEN era outro. O cantor da banda completou trinta e cinco anos e comprou uma mansão em Nova York como presente. O relacionamento rápido que o músico teve com Bill Reid apenas contribuiu para que Mercury se afundasse ainda mais no álcool e nas drogas. As noitadas eram extremamente frequentes, inclusive durante o período em que a sua banda visitou pela primeira vez a América do Sul, no primeiro semestre de 1981. O show realizado no Morumbi, diante de 130 mil fãs, é até hoje um dos mais marcantes da carreira do QUEEN. A banda inclusive precisou desembolsar cerca de um milhão de libras para concretizar a viagem, que ainda passou por Buenos Aires e Rosario, na Argentina.
De volta aos ares suíços, o QUEEN registrou “Hot Space” (1982), entre maio de 1981 e fevereiro do ano seguinte. O fracasso do disco, que não conquistou prestígio nos Estados Unidos, pode ser relacionado ao consumo excessivo de cocaína por parte de FREDDIE MERCURY durante as sessões em estúdio. Na época, os interesses do cantor indicavam que um disco solo seria eminente. No entanto, “Mr. Bad Guy” (1985) representou mais uma decepção para Mercury, que não encontrava a felicidade tão idealizada longe do QUEEN. Com “The Works” (1984), a sua banda retomou a Europa com os sucessos “Radio Ga Ga” e “I Want to Break Free”, mas definitivamente abandonou as turnês pelo continente norte-americano, que não assimilou a nova fase new wave do grupo. Nessa mesma época, a descoberta do vírus AIDS assustou muitas pessoas, sobretudo os artistas que viviam de modo inconsequente e irresponsável. O frontman do QUEEN recusava-se a admitir que pudesse ser soropositivo. O amigo Paul Gamaccini sempre soube o porquê.
A promiscuidade e os relacionamentos fracassados do músico são extremamente bem abordados por Selim Rauer em “Freddie Mercury”. Os mais próximos a Freddie sempre notaram que a fama com o QUEEN trouxe muito dinheiro e conforto ao cantor, mas nunca a felicidade que ele sempre buscou. O seu apetite sexual, considerado insaciável por muitos, colocava um novo homem na cama de Mercury noite após noite. Na sua segunda passagem pelo Brasil, durante o Rock in Rio (1985), um grupo masculino visitou a sua suíte no Copabana Palace para uma festinha particular. Nem mesmo o relacionamento, supostamente sério com a atriz alemã Barbara Valentin, afastou FREDDIE MERCURY dos tabloides ingleses. A sua vida particular – e a sua homossexualidade sempre colocada em cheque – aliaram-se as polêmicas consequentes da AIDS, que já fazia as suas primeiras vítimas mundo afora. De volta a Londres, Mercury soube que a sua vida iria para uma encruzilhada definitiva. Os seus amantes do passado viravam notícia na imprensa. Eles estavam morrendo por causa do vírus HIV.
De qualquer modo, o QUEEN nunca abandonou a sua carreira nos anos mais difíceis de exílio de Mercury. Com a banda, o cantor sempre soube dar a volta por cima. Não é a toa que o grupo ainda realizava megaturnês e shows emblemáticos, como em Johanesburgo (em meio ao regime do apartheid) e durante o Live Aid, evento beneficente de proporção mundial. Entre poucas certezas e muitas incertezas, Mercury conquistava o posto de maior intérprete ao vivo de seu tempo. Porém, ninguém imaginava que a banda realizaria em 1986 a sua última turnê. O desgaste da sequência de shows – assim como o temperamento explosivo e megalomaníaco do cantor na estrada – prejudicava por demais as questões relacionadas à sua saúde. O show gravado em Wembley – com dezessete câmeras e em filme de 35 mm – é o que resta e simboliza a morte dos projetos de FREDDIE MERCURY.
De volta a sua mansão em Garden Lodge (Londres), Freddie aproveitou o tempo que restava para fazer o que mais gostava. Com ninguém menos do que Montserrat Caballé o cantor gravou “Barcelona”, o disco (e o hino) para as Olimpíadas de 1992. Em uma sessão de estúdio que se estendeu do jantar às seis da manhã, a dupla criou o álbum que mais trouxe paz e prazer para o vocalista de origem persa.
No entanto, o músico nunca mais encontrou o sossego após as sessões de “Barcelona”. Embora nunca tenha falado sobre a doença – até mesmo com os integrantes do QUEEN – Mercury viu o seu nome estampado na imprensa inglesa após um ex-assistente vender fotos do cantor com drogas e com os seus amantes para o The Sun. As mortes de Tony Bastine e Josh Murphy (que namoraram FREDDIE MERCURY), em decorrência da AIDS, mais uma vez colocou em cheque a saúde do músico na imprensa. Cada vez mais frágil e alheio ao mundo da música, o vocalista ainda encontrou forças para subir ao palco com Montserrat Caballé na Espanha. Nos dias seguintes, emm entrevista ao jornal The Daily Mail negou que possuísse o vírus. No entanto, o relacionamento estável com Jim Hutton e o álbum “The Miracle” (1989) deram certo ânimo ao músico. Embora não tenha realizado nenhuma apresentação ao vivo, o disco mostrou um FREDDIE MERCURY com barba – para esconder um câncer de pele – no videoclipe de “The Invisible Man”.
De volta à Suíça, FREDDIE MERCURY se fechou na sua casa em Montreux. Os esforços despendidos para criar o álbum “Innuendo” (1991) provavelmente encurtaram em meses a vida do cantor, extremamente debilitado em decorrência da sua doença. Como despedida, o vocalista ainda encontrou um fiozinho de ânimo para deixar prontas as músicas que fariam parte do álbum “Made in Heaven” (1995). O cantor, que sequer conseguia ficar de pé e estava com a visão seriamente comprometida, gravou o clipe para “These Are the Days of Our Lives” em junho de 1991, a sua última atuação ao lado dos músicos do QUEEN. O guitarrista Brian May se emociona até hoje ao recordar o esforço de FREDDIE MERCURY na época.
Cada vez mais fraco, Mercury optou por interromper o ineficiente tratamento a base de medicamentos. Em casa, o cantor não deixava a cama e sequer conseguia ingerir alimentos sólidos. No dia 23 de novembro de 1991 o anúncio oficial: FREDDIE MERCURY admitia que havia contraído o vírus HIV em alguma data desconhecida no passado. Embora a notícia tenha chocado muitos, a informação era mais do que esperada, sobretudo para os fãs que sentiam como certa negatividade a ausência do QUEEN dos palcos. Por outro lado, ninguém imaginava que o fim do cantor estava tão próximo. No dia seguinte, por volta das 18h45, FREDDIE MERCURY parou de respirar. O cantor morria em razão de uma broncopneumonia agravada pela AIDS.
De certa forma, a biografia de FREDDIE MERCURY remonta o seu derradeiro fim de maneira impressionante, sobretudo pela escassez de depoimentos e de relatos de pessoas que conviveram com o músico durante os seus últimos dias. Nem mesmo ELTON JOHN – provavelmente a única amizade que Mercury conquistou na música – é capaz de compreender com detalhes. As poucas entrevistas não prejudicaram o livro – que ainda é complementado pela discografia (com track-lists) do QUEEN. A obra é uma oportunidade interessante para quem qujer conhecer um pouco mais – mesmo em explorar as particularidades e as peculiaridades – da mítica figura de FREDDIE MERCURY. Embora não possua um caráter definitivo, algumas questões inacabadas sobre a vida e a morte do cantor ficam no ar. Em que lugar estariam repousados os restos mortais do cantor?
